Ceramic Vase With Driftwood Lid

Product Description -  Ancient Korean & Japanese techniques are integrated in the creation of this vase.  Each piece is handmade using a pottery wheel, and after drying is covered with organic materials such as sawdust, seaweed, fruit peels and eucalyptus leaves, then fired inside containers (saggars) within the kiln.  The pieces get their color & markings at random from where they were in the kiln & from what materials burned against their surfaces.  After firing, the pots are pulled directly out of the ash & cleaned.  Firing in this primitive method gives each piece its own natural look.  No two pieces are exactly alike.

Sandy - I really love the driftwood handle on this piece.  It's funny, the artist didn't really want to sell me this vase!  Many times I am picking their favorite works!  It must be hard to make such beautiful things & then having to let them go!  I know this beauty will find a wonderful home.
