Michael Hirsh

Michael Hirsh began his ceramic journey in 1972 at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland CA. After completing his BFA in 1975 he furthered his education at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, earning his Master’s degree in ceramics with a focus on incorporating sculpture into his ceramics.

Hirsh briefly paused his ceramic career to focus on family and work in construction, tile work and sales. Resuming his artistic endeavors in 2001, he has since honed his skills in his Burbank CA studio.

He creates unique handmade pieces inspired by the Art Deco and Mid Century Modern periods. All pieces are hand thrown, hand carved and glazed using his original design motifs and high fire glaze techniques.

In addition to producing his own work, Hirsh furthers his ceramic knowledge through collecting vintage pottery and teaches adult ceramic classes at the Betsy Lueke Creative Art Center in Burbank.
